Trametinib is used alone or in combination with Dabrafenib to treat Melanoma (Skin Cancer) that has spread or that cannot be removed by surgery. It is also used together with Dabrafenib to help prevent Melanoma from coming back after surgery. It is only used if the melanoma cells have the BRAF V600E or V600K mutations. Trametinib is also used together with Dabrafenib to treat Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) that has spread, and Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer (ATC) that has spread and has no satisfactory treatment options. It is only used if the NSCLC cells and ATC cells have the BRAF V600E mutation. Trametinib is also used in combination with Dabrafenib to treat Solid Tumors that has spread, that cannot be removed by surgery, or that have gotten worse (progressed) and has no satisfactory treatment options. It is only used if the solid tumors have the BRAF V600E mutations. Trametinib is also used in combination with Dabrafenib to treat Low-Grade Glioma (LGG) in patients who require other treatments. It is only used if the brain tumor has the BRAF V600E mutations. Your doctor will use a special test to look for these mutations. Trametinib belongs to the group of medicines, called Antineoplastic (cancer medicines).

Meqsel 2mg Tablet has Trametinib as an active agent. It is a prescription medication used to treat certain types of cancers. Cancer is a disorder in which cells multiply uncontrolled and abnormally. This medication inhibits the cell growth and division of cancer cells and used in treatment of advanced melanoma. It is typically used with another drug (dabrafenib) to improve treatment outcomes. This medication is used to treat skin cancer called melanoma which cannot be removed by surgery or has spread to other parts of the body. It also prevents melanoma from returning after being removed from surgery. Also used to treat a kind of lung cancer called non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). 

Like all medications, it can cause side effects. The most common side effects include rash, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and peripheral edema (hand and foot swelling). Talk to your physician if you have liver disorders, kidney disorders, breathing problems, heart diseases, or eye problems before taking Meqsel 2mg Tablet. It is not recommended for adolescents and children under the age of 18 and for also who are allergic to it or one of its components. The recommended dose is one tablet daily, taken orally with or without food.

Meqsel is a kinase inhibitor indicated as a single agent for the treatment of BRAF-inhibitor treatment-naïve patients with unrespectable or metastatic melanoma with BRAF V600E or V600K mutations.

Meqsel 2mg Tablet works by blocking the activity of a protein called Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK), which is part of the Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. This pathway is critical in regulating cell growth, division, and survival. It helps slow or stop cancer cell growth and spread by blocking MEK.

The dose of this medicine will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of this medicine. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine.

For oral dosage form (tablets):

For melanoma, non-small cell lung cancer, anaplastic thyroid cancer, solid tumors, and glioma:

Adults—2 milligrams (mg) once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed and tolerated.

Children 1 year of age and older—Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your doctor.

Weighing 51 kilograms (kg) or more—2 milligrams (mg) once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed and tolerated.

Weighing 38 to 50 kg—1.5 mg once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed and tolerated.

Weighing 26 to 37 kg—1 mg once a day. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed and tolerated.

Weighing less than 26 kg—Use of oral solution is recommended

Children younger than 1 year of age—Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.

Meqsel 2mg Tablet is usually taken orally as a tablet. It can be taken either with or can also be taken without food. Your specific condition, such as medical conditions, age, weight, and overall health, will decide the dosage and duration of treatment. It is essential to follow the instructions provided by the healthcare provider or pharmacist when taking. Generally, the tablet should be swallowed whole with a full glass of water. You should not crush, chew, or break the tablet. If a dose is missed, it is important to take it as soon as possible unless it is almost time for the next scheduled dose. In that case, the missed dose should be skipped, and the regular dosing schedule should be resumed. It would help if you did not take two drug doses together to compensate for a missed dose.
